Poetry

50 Years

I sit with you
You are tired
And you apologize

No, my friend, to
Sit with you
Is all I want

Just one more time

I tell stories
Of our silly youth
As you smile

Remember when
We counted stuffed animals
And rescued cats

Rujill, Jiruth
Our names intertwined
Forever, my forever friend

Mere days ago
As you slept
I sat with you

Just one last time

When you opened
your eyes, I said
I will not say
Goodbye

You agreed

Instead, I said
Rest well
My dearest friend

We will walk
This painful world
With grief carved hearts

Rescuing memories
Of love and
Gratitude
